Green bonds: an opportunity for energy efficiency

The global green bond market has been growing steadily since 2010, hitting $42.9 billion in 2015, according to the World Bank. This growth trend is very positive if we consider that the total amount issued in 2010 was merely a tenth of this figure. In view of this, one could conclude that we find ourselves in the middle of a boom in this market, however, green bonds are still an emerging financial instrument in Europe. The potential is there, but there is still lack of awareness and understanding on the side of both investors and potential (private and public) issuers.

Parliamentary Advisory Group on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) call for investment

The report to the Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy states that carbon capture and storage is an essential component in delivering lowest cost decarbonisation across the whole UK economy. It also concludes that current CCS technology and its supply chain are fit for purpose. There is no reason to wait for international projects or for technological progress in either the components or overall system of CCS. Because lead times are long – planning, regulatory and construction – early decisions are needed.
