Energy efficiency at top of EU policy agenda

SPiCE³ illustrates the way forward for many countries that are responding to the EU's public consultation, issued on 3rd February, 2014: ‘Progress towards the 2020 energy efficiency objective and a 2030 energy efficiency policy framework’. The consultation aims to inquire about progress on the 20% target and likewise opens a strategic debate around the EU’s energy efficiency policy beyond 2020.

Implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive in the UK

The UK will meet the 20% energy consumption reduction requirement of the Energy Efficiency Directive through the existing policies implemented under its Climate Change Act. It proposes to implement requirements concerning use of cogeneration / efficient district heating and cooling options (Article 14) under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (which implement the Industrial Emissions Directive). The energy audit requirements of Article 8 will be implemented under the government’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

Gain European-wide recognition for your energy efficiency efforts - apply until 1 June!

Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, has announced the European Responsible Care (RC) Awards 2014 competition is now open. For the second time, the award scheme has teamed up with SPiCE³ to give out the energy efficiency prize. It aims to recognise the most outstanding achievements enabling energy efficiency improvements across the European chemical industry, particularly in SMEs.
