Cefic publishes its European Chemical Industry Facts and Figures 2016

The latest iteration of the Cefic Facts and Figures Report is now available online. Published each year, the report provides an analysis of the latest competitive trends in the European chemical industry and the most up-to-date information based on currently available data about the sector, which produces 17% of the world's chemicals, employs 1.2 million workers and contributes €551 billion to the EU economy.

Updates to the SPiCE³ website

Discover a new look website when you visit the SPiCE³ platform. Significant work has taken place over the past three months to update and improve the SPiCE³ website, not just in terms of content, but also in the way that the platform now operates.

EU Sustainable Energy Week

The EU's yearly celebration of sustainability and energy efficiency will take place this year during the week of 13 June. Plenty of activity is planned including the main conference, side events including workshops, networking events and the EUSEW Awards. SPiCE³ submitted an application to hold a seminar, and submitted itself to the Awards (to which we've passed the first round, so fingers crossed we make it to the final!).

Study on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Potential shows Great Potential for EU Chemical Industry Sector

Eurostat (the European Union's statistical office) figures for 2013 show that the chemical and pharmaceutical industry hold the largest share in final energy consumption – larger than any other energy intensive industry sector in the EU.

A study commissioned by the European Commission and carried out by ICF International shows that whilst energy efficiency levels in EU industry are expected to improve overall up to 2050, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry sector's energy consumption is expected to increase in line with sales, which are predicted to be 60% greater than in 2010.

Launch of European Energy Efficiency Platform Event

On 5 April the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission held a stakeholder meeting in Brussels to present and further discuss the launch of an energy efficiency platform E3P. SPiCE³ was particularly interested in sharing views and ideas with the JRC on both the concept and content of the platform.

Scottish Industrial decarbonisation and energy efficiency roadmap published

Zero Waste Scotland have published a roadmap for decarbonisation of the energy intensive sector in Scotland. It will be up to the Government to decide how to respond after the May elections.

Manufacturers don’t trust equipment energy efficiency claims

In a wide-ranging survey carried out by Carbon Trust only 5% of people trust energy efficiency claims made by equipment manufacturers and over half were not aware of where to find reliable data on equipment energy efficiency.
