Wacker Chemie AG: a continuous optimisation of the energy supply
06 Apr 2016

Annex Wacker Chemie AG

Wacker Chemie and E.ON entered into a long-term agreement for the on-site production and supply of heat and power for use in Burghausen plant. The huge power and steam demand at Wacker’s site was originally covered by on-site generation in a steam power plant. To streamline the energy supply, the existing steam power plant was extended and E.ON implemented several technical optimisation measures for the CHP plant.

Wacker Chemie AG is a globally operating chemical company in the fields of semiconductors, polysilicon, polymers, silicones and specialties chemicals. The site in Burghausen, Bavaria, is Wacker’s principal production site with a huge power and steam demand. The main part of the energy demand is covered by the CHP plant.

In 2003 E.ON acquired the CHP plant with a capacity of 119 MW and took over the management of the plant. E.ON and Wacker Chemie entered into a long term partnership, extended till 2019. Besides contractual re-design, several technical optimisation measures were implemented: the gas turbine maintenance was integrated into the E.ON organisation including the spare parts pool of the E.ON group.
