Decarb Europe highlights the potential of energy management

In May 2017, the European Copper Institute (ECI) published Decarb Europe - Connecting technologies for a cleaner future. This report is a call for action, demonstrating there are mature and competitive technologies which can support European efforts to reach COP21 GHG targets while improving energy performances.

Solvay - optimizing cooling water pumps

The Solvay Group, the global chemical company headquartered in Brussels, has a workforce of some
29,000 across the world. At their Bad Wimpfen facility, Solvay Fluor GmbH mainly produces organic and inorganic fluor-based products for use in the automotive industry and in air-conditioning, to name but a few.

Thanks to KSB energy efficiency system Solvay Fluor was able to save 25% energy on its pump system at its recooling plant in Bad Wimpfen, Germany.

Upgrading the air preheating section of these units with a polymer air preheater generates attractive additional savings and simultaneously eliminates corrosion problems.

Heat recovery technologies: the DFH case

Sasol Italy's implementation of Advanced Process Controls

Sasol Italy implemented an energy efficiency improvement project based on the application of Advanced Process Control ("APC") technologies in its factory at Augusta (Siracusa, Italy).

Wacker Chemie and E.ON entered into a long-term agreement for the on-site production and supply of heat and power for use in Burghausen plant. The huge power and steam demand at Wacker’s site was originally covered by on-site generation in a steam power plant. To streamline the energy supply, the existing steam power plant was extended and E.ON implemented several technical optimisation measures for the CHP plant.

Borsodchem Zrt: a 7-MW-low-temperature Waste Heat Recovery Plant

BorsodChem Zrt adopted an energy efficiency solution designed and realized in its site in Kazincbarcika, in North-East Hungary, the company’s principal production site. The plant has increased its peak load process steam production capability thanks to Flue Gas Heat Recovery (FGHR) system connected to on one of the two 24 MW Gas Turbines chimney stack.

Cefic announced on 08/10/2015 the winners of its European Responsible Care Awards, during a special ceremony at its annual general assembly in Brussels. Under the auspices of this competition Trinseo Benelux (NL) received a special commendation for its project “Energy Efficiency through steam re-compression”. The company was praised for the creative way to use steam previously blown off to the atmosphere or condensed against cooling water at its site in Terneuzen (NL).
